We're Celebrating Again!

Following last month's great news when we were awarded 4 stars, this month we are celebrating a milestone!

2009 marks our 30th year at The Woolacombe Bay Hotel – we can't quite believe it's been that long!

We purchased the Hotel in 1978 but it was a full year before we could open to the public as an extensive renovation was required.

Since that time we have welcomed many guests to our Hotel and we would like to send a big thank you once again to all our wonderful guests in supporting us and helping us reach this milestone!

Here's to the next 30 years!

A word from our Chef…

Lemon posset is an easy dessert perfect for al fresco eating and a dish the whole family will enjoy.

Lemon Posset

Ingredients:

300ml lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
250g Caster Sugar
550g Double Cream

Method:

1). Squeeze the lemon juice in to a pan.
2). Reduce the 300ml to 150ml on a low heat.
3). Add 250g sugar and dissolve in the 150ml lemon and bring back to the boil.
4). Pour the lemon and sugar mix over 550ml double cream.
5). Whisk together and strain through sieve into bowl.
6). Pour into individual glasses and allow to set for 6 hours.

Serve with fresh summer berries and/or ice cream.

Magical Summer Holidays

Summer is here and we can’t wait to see you again! Woolacombe really comes alive during these warmer months – there is never a shortage of things to do either around the hotel or in the surrounding countryside. Here are a few of our favourite events you might like to check out:

19th – 21st June GoldCoast Oceanfest, Croyde.
2009 celebrates the 11th consecutive GoldCoast Oceanfest. The single largest event in the North Devon festival, hosting over 500 athletes competing for 10 freesports titles. Showcasing over 25 live music acts on stage with top international artists.

12th July National Sandcastle Competition, Woolacombe.
Marvel at the amazing sand sculptures which result from this event on our beautiful beach. The competition features teams from local companies and teams from all over Europe.

2nd August Birdman Competition, Ilfracombe.
Ilfracombe Pier hosts the annual South West Birdman competition which involves lots of crazy people or so called 'would-be aviators' flinging themselves over the pier to see who can 'fly' the furthest or at least plummet hilariously into the waiting sea.
